If you suffer from chronic pain and feel that you have fallen through the cracks in our health care system, this program may be for you. There is no miracle cure for chronic pain, but much of the suffering and disability that accompanies it is preventable.
The Pain Management Program (PMP) can help you to mobilize your inner resources of mind and body in order to effectively manage pain and illness and regain control of your life.
To help you better understand your condition, a specialist will conduct a medical assessment and send a report to your doctor.
This is followed by an interdisciplinary group treatment program in which you will be taught mindfulness techniques to increase body awareness and combine breathing with gentle stretching to calm your mind and strengthen your body.
Scientific literature shows that most people who complete such a program experience a lasting decrease in pain levels and fatigue.
The PMP is located in and supported by Health Recovery Clinic where a team of rehabilitation professionals is available for consultation as required. Two handbooks on pain are also available for download.
The program cost is covered by OHIP on referral by your physician although there is an administrative charge for teaching material.
